The palace of the Genoese governors or Palais des Gouverneurs was originally a simple watchtower built in 1380 and called the "Bastia." It is from this tower that the city takes its name. It only became the residence of the Genoese governors in Corsica at the end of the 15th century. This palace was classified as a historic monument in 1977. It was first repurposed as the Museum of Corsican Ethnology and is now the city's municipal museum. The palace's beautiful gardens with their magnificent view are also worth a visit.

The Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, built in the 17th century, is the largest in Corsica. It was classified as a historic monument in 1999. The interior is spectacular on account of its sheer size and the many works of art and paintings that adorn its walls. It comprises several chapels, a marble statue of Saint John the Baptist, and an organ loft decorated with three paintings depicting scenes of his life. The life of Saint John the Baptist is celebrated starting at sunset on June 23. A huge brazier is lit for the occasion at the old port, under the ramparts of the Citadel, and people are invited to bathe in the sea which is said to have regenerative properties on this day.
